The EMSOS 2010 meeting was held from May 5th
to 7th 2010 in Birmingham.
It was attended by over 362 delegates from
32 different countries. There were 226 abstracts
submitted of which 66 were accepted for podium
presentation. The key note lectures were given by Prof Rob
Coleman – ‘Bone Targeted Therapy in Malignancy’ and Prof J
Y Blay - ‘Improving collaboration across Europe for
sarcoma research and care’.
Prof Mark Gebhardt from
Boston delivered a lecture on ‘The Role of Bone Allografts
in 2010.
The main
meeting was preceeded by a Training Day entitled ‘Current
concepts and controversies in sarcoma management’ when
invited speakers were asked to do a presentation on their
topic which was followed by audience voting. This proved
highly educational and entertaining and was attended by
281 delegates. The following topics were addressed:
· Liposarcomas – a spectrum of disease
·
Ewing’s Sarcoma of the
Pelvis – Radiotherapy, Surgery or both?
·
Neoadjuvant Therapy for
Soft Tissue Sarcomas – what and when?
·
Limb salvage or
amputation for bone sarcomas – what is safe?
·
The role of MTP-PE in
osteosarcoma chemotherapy
·
The management of
advanced disease in sarcomas – when to treat and what
with?
There was a reception on the first
evening at the Birmingham Sea Life Centre and a gala
dinner on the Thursday evening at the Birmingham Botanical
Gardens where there was entertainment by The Three Waiters
and by Soul Trader.

The Nurses and AHP meeting was also a
great success with 67 attendees.
